School Council
Our School Council runs to involve children in decisions about the school.
The children vote to elect two members of their class onto the school council and there are ten children in all. The school council then elect a chairperson, vice chairperson and secretary.
Every class has a suggestion box for school council to discuss and the school councillors feedback to their classes after each meeting. Photographs of the school council, together with their meeting minutes, can be seen on display near the main school entrance.
The school council raises money for projects it is involved in and their card game raised £X during the Christmas fair 2010.
This year the school council has followed up several suggestions from children:
- Posters have been designed and published around school to remind children to help keep the toilets cleaner,
- Wild flower seeds have been bought to help improve the wild life area,
- Five new teams have been developed to help involve more children in school activities (see below).
The school council has formed five teams which are responsible for different roles around school. These teams were again elected by the children throughout the school. The teams are:
- Play Pals – this team helps to put out the playground games and toys and tidy them away each day,
- Cloakroom keepers – this team helps to monitor and tidy their class cloakroom,
- Energy Zappers – this team makes sure lights and computers are switched off and electricity is not wasted at school as well as take the recycling bins out the compost bins every day,
- Lunch Bunch – this team helps to set up the dining hall at lunchtime as well as tidy the hall and classrooms after children have finished eating,
- Squabble Stoppers – this team are trained to help other children to solve disagreements which happen outside.
We also have plans to include children, through the school council, in the School Nutrition Action Group (SNAG) to help us work with the school kitchen and staff to improve lunchtimes even more as we apply for the Food for Life award.
