Ofsted Report

The school had an Ofsted inspection on 17-18th October 2011.  The full report can be read by clicking here.  School staff and governors are delighted with the Ofsted report as we feel it reflects how hard our children, parents, staff and governors work together.

We have also prepared a short film using direct quotes from the report which includes pictures of children at the school.

Here are some of the comments Ofsted made about our school:

The school provides a good quality of education

Pupils are welcomed into the school and treated as individuals

Behaviour is good in lessons and around the school

Pupils feel safe and know that there is always an adult to whom they can speak to help them sort out any concerns

Pupils get on well together and have a clear sense of right and wrong

Pupils take active steps to ensure good behaviour and safety through the use of ‘squabble stoppers’ who help address issues before they escalate

The school has worked steadily to improve the quality of teaching; this improvement is leading to accelerated progress across the school

Children make good progress in the reception

Progress in the rest of school is good because good teaching, together with improved monitoring and assessment procedures, means that learning is now proceeding at a faster pace

Careful planning of activities, together with open-ended topics involving the use of imagination, enables more able pupils to extend their learning

The school prides itself on its inclusive nature

In conjunction with teachers, support staff provide a range of well-planned interventions for individuals and small groups; as a result all groups are focussed on meeting their targets

The inquiry-led curriculum has been put in place to ensure that pupils develop a broad range of skills and add to what they know so far

Inquiries develop personal responsibility

The sense of awe and wonder is developed via the inquiry-led approach to learning

In addition, increasing emphasis is placed on the sense of wonder and where the imagination can take you so that pupils become full partners on the learning journey

Typical of the good care, support and guidance provided is the ‘Cheeky Monkeys’ after school club where children feel safe and enjoy imaginative activities such as dressing up as superheroes

Pupils whose circumstances make them vulnerable are carefully monitored and bespoke support is provided for them and their families

The governing body has been restructured and offers good support and challenge

The headteacher has established clear expectations across the school

In line with its open door policy, the school works closely with parents and carers to ensure that pupil’s progress is good or better and that they are effectively supported in their learning

Very well used ‘sharing books’ which are sent home to parents and carers, help illuminate how each child is developing at home and at school and ensure a very constructive dialogue

A very large majority of parents and carers say the school provides them with good information about how well their child is doing and helps them support their children’s learning at home

The governing body are now developing a vision statement with the aim of:

  • Strengthening the current good position of the school, and
  • Identifying the school’s next steps which will help the school work towards providing an outstanding quality of education for all children who attend Lodge Lane Infant School
